  • Write to your MP

    Write to your MP

The recent decision by the UK Supreme Court is bad, but we’re still going to win. Anybody who went to the protests at the weekend feels it. This is a backlash and it’s bad, but there are just more trans people and allies than there are terfs and transphobes. We will win.

Your MP needs to hear from you. Tell them you want a legislative remedy to protect trans rights. If you want to go into more detail, there are some scripts online: The Trans Solidarity Alliance has one. And there’s another one from The Trans Legal Project. Do include some of your own words at the top of the message. Perhaps you might mention that you’re disappointed or angry or that trans women are our sisters or anything else. MPs just need to know how many of us there are. Your own words mark you as an actual person and your words are valid and needed.

You can find out your MP’s email address via They Work For You.

For our cis friends, please write and encourage your friends to write. Don’t leave your MP or your contacts in doubt as to whether you’re an ally. Speak up for us.

If you are trans, you can (and should) ask your MP to meet you! Trans Actual has advice. You can bring your spouse, a friend or a family member with you. Some MPs have never knowingly met a trans person. Your meeting with them is a good thing to do and a valuable use of your time even if it doesn’t seem to go anywhere.

Things do feel discouraging right now, but we have the power to turn it around, if we stand up and are counted. Especially our allies.

Help be part of the solution. Write.

  • Emergency Demo for Trans Liberation

    Emergency Demo for Trans Liberation

Come together with trans organisations, unions, and more to for a community-focused protest against the Supreme Court ruling this Saturday! Bring food and a raincoat.

This morning the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom issued their ruling in the case For Women Scotland Ltd v The Scottish Ministers. The Supreme Court has ruled that under the Equality Act 2010, provision for women only applies to cisgender women. This ruling also asserts that sex is binary in the eyes of the Supreme Court, further cutting off the possibility of non-binary legal recognition.

But no matter what attacks are made against us, we won’t disappear and we won’t back down. There is a growing movement against this, from trans and queer people to our allies in the workers movement, the Palestine movement and beyond. Join us and show transphobes, the far right, and the government: this is far from over.

Trans liberation now. Trans liberation forever.

  • Stop the SAVE Act

    Stop the SAVE Act

US Citizens and residents, please call your senators and representatives to oppose this act, which would disenfranchise most trans people. Please do this ASAP, the committee meeting on this bill is Monday 31 March at 4pm Eastern.

Republicans want to remove voting rights from anyone who has changed their name unless that person has also updated their birth certificate or has a valid passport. This is nominally to prevent virtually non-existent voter fraud. But the real target is taking the vote away from their wives.

There is nobody Republican men hate more than the women they’re married to. Most republican women have changed their names and don’t have passports. We’re an incidental target, but we’d still lose the right to vote.

Democrats Abroad have more information and a script for calling.

  • US Citizens & Residents: Call Against the Stopgap Bill

US Citizens & Residents: Call Against the Stopgap Bill

Holding on to the rights of trans people in the US requires solidarity with other areas under attack by Trump. Democrats Abroad shares our goal of slowing down or stopping the Musk/Trump agenda. They are asking for people to call their senators, asking them to vote no on the stopgap spending bill.

DA has a script to use with Democrats and one for Republicans in the Senate. It’s a good script but we would like to ask you to also mention trans rights when you are speaking with Democrats.

If you have ideas for what sort of actions you would like to see, especially direct actions, please leave a comment.

Trans people and allies are encouraged to please comment in favour of protecting trans rights.

  • Passport Rights for Trans Americans

    Passport Rights for Trans Americans

Last week, the US group Lambda Legal had a workshop for trans people who are eligible for US passports. The information is current as of then.

Almost all international travel requires passports, so it’s generally better to have an incorrect passport than no passport.

As hedgehogs, we have no borders and dream that this will also be true of humans again soon.

  • Trans rights now!

    Trans rights now!

We are a collective of hedgehogs who have come to feel very prickly about the international rollback of trans rights.

In recent years, we’ve mostly dedicated our activities to nighttime walks in the fog, eating slugs and avoiding bonfires, but we do have a history of anti-fascist organising, especially in Austria.

Although we’ve been out of political life for many years, recently, the situation has gotten so troubling that we see no alternative to speaking up.

Trans people have the right to access healthcare and live in peace, free from discrimination. Just as hedgehogs have a right to stay out of large fires.

It’s not enough to merely survive, however. We also wish to fight for the right to party. For us and for trans people, young and old, near and far. (Just, please, maybe without bonfires.)

Or if you are going to have a bonfire, make the pile just immediately before you burn it. Really, we wouldn’t mind a bit of bonfire solidarity.

You can also help by joining our campaign. Sign up to our signal group or send an email to AB InBev. Or follow us on the fediverse to know what’s happening as we launch.
